How to Execute an Elbow Strike:
-
Stance & Positioning: Start in a balanced fighting stance with your hands up in a guard position.
-
Engagement: Raise your elbow to shoulder height and keep your arm bent at about a 90-degree angle.
-
Rotation & Power: Generate force by rotating your hips and shoulders into the strike. The power comes from the body’s torque, not just the arm.
-
Impact Points: Strike using the hard bone of your elbow. Depending on the technique, you can aim for the opponent’s jaw, temple, ribs, or sternum.
-
Types of Elbow Strikes: -
Horizontal Elbow: Delivered across the body, striking the target with a swinging motion.
-
Downward Elbow: Brought down in a chopping motion, useful in clinches or as a counter.
-
Upward Elbow: Rises in a sharp, upward movement, targeting the chin or nose.

-
Follow-through & Defense: After striking, return quickly to your guard position to maintain control.
