Our beginner's course is the ultimate way to learn Close Combat (CC). We start from the basics and guide you through a tried and tested syllabus, ensuring you build a solid foundation and progress confidently.

Our training covers multiple attackers, dealing with threats from weapons, using multiple weapon systems, and, of course, hand-to-hand Combat.

Close Combat Explained
Close Combat, was significantly developed by William E. Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes. Fairbairn, a British Royal Marine and Shanghai Municipal Police officer, along with Sykes, a firearms expert, created a system of hand-to-hand combat techniques .
Principles
- Real-World Focus: Emphasizes practical techniques that can be used in real-life situations.
- Aggressiveness: Encourages aggressive responses to threats to neutralize attackers quickly.
- Simplicity: Techniques are designed to be simple and easy to learn, making them effective even under stress.
- Adaptability: Incorporates techniques from various martial arts, including boxing, wrestling, judo, and aikido.
Techniques we use:
- Striking: Includes punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes.
- Defensive Moves: Focuses on blocking, parrying, and evading attacks.
- Grappling: Uses throws, joint locks, and pins to control or incapacitate an opponent.
- Weapon Defense: Teaches defences against armed attackers, including knives, guns, and sticks.
How we train
- Physical Conditioning: Emphasizes fitness, strength, and endurance.
- Scenario-Based Training: Uses realistic scenarios to practice techniques and decision-making under stress.
- Sparring: Engages in controlled combat with partners to apply techniques in a realistic setting.

Join us for a 90-minute session that includes a warm-up, physical fitness power exercises, and combat techniques from the ICCA syllabus. Purchase a single session below or a membership and come and train with us.
After purchase, we will send you a membership form and further information about what to wear and bring with you. The session is for over 18s only . There is no upper age but we do need you to be medically fit for light to moderate exercise. We do encourage you to train in your own pace and we welcome new members who just want to have a try.
